Quarter horses are the most popular breed of horses in America. I have been an organizer of many racing events that involved this breed. Here is some quarter horse information that I would like to share.
These horses were breed in 1700s. They come from a combined breeding of Chickasaw and English horses. This produced strong yet small horses that had the speed of 55 miles per hour. Initial quarter horse information states that they were popular with cowboys but gradually they became famous as quarter mile race horses.
These breed of horses have got their name from the fact that they are great racers. They are popular for participating in small distance races which are quarter of a mile long. These horses look typically muscular, sturdy and heavy. The quarter horses are so popular that they have the largest breed registry, American Quarter Horse Association.
With my experience of a quarter horses they have always come across as gentle yet strong. This makes them a popular family horse as well. If someone is looking for riding short distances in quick time then this is the best choice of a horse.
A quarter horse is also great for ranch work. Their calm and gentle nature makes them easy around other animals. All these quarter horse information about their characteristics helped me in training my horses and making them race winners.
Some of the purposes of quarter horses are participation in the following;
• Quarter mile races
• Speed games
• Various radio events
• Team penning
• Family horse
• Ranch horse
The two very famous quarter horses are Easy Jet who won 22 out of 26 starts as a two year old and Wimpy who was the first horse to be registered in American Quarter Horse Association.
